The best news of the month is that our much anticipated range of soft caramels are finally on the shelves!
This is the first time we\’ve added a new member to the Darling Sweet family, in time to celebrate our fourth birthday. Caramels are close relatives of toffees in the confectionery family. Both rely on the slow caramelizing together of butter and sugar to produce that traditional decadent sweetness that makes eating a toffee or a caramel such a deeply satisfying experience. The two are, however, very different in temperament. With toffee, it\’s only after some time that it starts to release its flavours, while a caramel, with its soft velvety chewiness, is much more eager to please, igniting the taste buds almost immediately. One can almost say that caramels are the yin to our toffee\’s yang.
The caramels are available in five fabulous flavours; Summer Berry, Salted Liquorice, Ginger & Cardamom, Chocolate & Orange, and Salted Caramels.
The Summer Berry caramels combine a rich butter caramel with the refreshing tang of summer berries; strawberry, raspberry and sour cherry. The Salted Liquorice caramels are a seductive combination of butter caramel, the distinct flavour of liquorice, and the crunch of West Coast fleur de sel sea salt crystals. In the Ginger and Cardamom caramels you find a rich butter caramel flavoured with the complex fragrance of cardamom and bits of dried ginger for that characteristic warm zing. The Chocolate and Orange caramels offer the rich creaminess of butter caramel combined with the smooth intensity of chocolate and the happy fruity flavour of oranges. The Salted Caramels, an officially licensed product of the Springboks rugby team, pays tribute to a traditional favourite in its combination of a rich melt-in-your-mouth caramel and the salty crunch of fleur de sel.
